An ex Horizons student came to see the group today to talk about his positive experiences whilst he was a student and how this helped him on his journey into a traineeship and voluntary work. 06/02/17 Horizons Students win second prize in national enterprise competition.

Horizons students entered a national competition for schools to design and create the best advertisement for an enterprise project. Our students, fully independently, designed a roller banner for our successful Gallery 5 enterprise business, the students then also made an accompanying short video to explain the process to the judges. Horizons student satisfaction survey results – Dec 2016

Horizons students have recently completed a student satisfaction survey and responses were really positive. The survey has has shown that – a) all students enjoy Horizons b) over 50% of students would award teaching in Horizons and on their offsite provision 5 stars c) 87% of students feel that Horizon’s Derby City Centre location supports the development of their independence. 01/12/2016 – Horizons entrepreneurs raise money for Newlife charity.

Horizons students have been creating items out of broken jewelry supplied by the the Newlife charity, the items which include gift bags have been on sale at our Gallery 5 space in the Guildhall market. All the money raised has gone to Newlife charity who help children with disabilities or terminal illness – for a full report click the link –

Horizons Independent Travelers – 11/11/2016

In October Derby City Council hosted ‘The Class of 2016’ Independent Travel Training Graduation event, a large number of Horizons students were invited to receive the award for completing the training, it is not only a fantastic achievement but also a massive step forward into becoming responsible and independent young adults. On 1st November 2016 the Principal David Snowdon visited Horizons to speak to the students about the difference in culture between Britain and Bangladesh. David has been the Principal of a school in Bangladesh for the past 8 years and spoke to Horizons students about the differences in education, health care, transport and discipline. On October 7th 2016 former WBF boxing champion came to speak to Horizons students about his career and life. Damon spoke openly about growing up in Derby and how he achieved his aims in life by not giving up and doing the right things, he also spoke about how after retiring from boxing he became a champion cyclist. Shane Nicholson, Ex Derby County Footballer, Visits Horizons.

On 30th September 2016, ex Derby County football player Shane Nicholson came to visit Horizons students at The Guildhall. Horizons Students Raise Money for Macmillan Charity

Students from Horizons have been making and selling cakes at the YMCA to raise money for the Macmillan Charity. There was a great turn out and the students did a fantastic job, as you can see from the photos they all look very professional too. Well done everyone involved.
